Choosing between burial & cremation

This can sometimes be a difficult decision to make; we will advise you fully on all the implications in order for you to make an informed choice.

Some points to consider about a burial

  • In some areas, burial space is limited, no longer available or extremely expensive. At Adam & Greenwood, we are fortunate in being able to offer our families the opportunity of burial in our own beautiful woodland cemetery, called ‘Herongate Wood’, in nearby Brentwood. Burial at Herongate Wood enables a loved one to rest forever in a bluebell wood. Herongate Wood also has a Service Hall (Hall of Remembrance) in which to hold an unhurried funeral service. • If you or your family wish to be buried close by, you may want to reserve additional adjacent plots

  • You may already have a family grave or plot which we can arrange to re-open and have any memorial removed, stored, updated and replaced
  • You can hold the funeral service in a local Church or in a Cemetery Chapel
  • After the burial, we can help you arrange a memorial headstone or a new inscription on an existing headstone.

Some points to consider about a cremation

  • There is usually a cost differential and it pays to consider the costs of each
  • The funeral service can be held at the crematorium itself or elsewhere (for example in church or at Herongate Wood, before going to the crematorium)
  • We would advise clients that, whilst the crematorium works to a strict time schedule, we can often arrange to overcome this when booking
  • We will help you decide the final resting place for the ashes; this decision does not have to be made at the time of the funeral arrangement.
